THE CHANGE OF BILBAO

In 1300 year Bilbao became a small town.

Before this year, in the port near San Anton people worked as merchants.

From 14th to 19th century industry was the most important, but nowadays it has changed.

Then Bilbao started to grow physically and in population. In 1980 there was a big flood that destroyed all the Old Town.

After that Gugemheim museum was built. The museum has became the landmark of Bilbao. Nowadays old industries have closed.

In 1300 they appointed a village of Bilbao. Yhe people that lived in Bilbao were mercharits Before in Bilbao when you get down of the bus you tapeworm that put a handkerchief in the smoke that drew the carrs that you put a handkerchief in the mouth and afterwrds when you removed it to you the handkerchief was black because the dust of the city.
In then 1970 there was a world wide crisiss and the people remained without works like it is happenig now. The unemployment arrived at 25 %.

The theatre Arriga:it was named after a musician . There is one just bulding at the side of the station that was the first skyscraper that was bult it has 12 hours.

Bilbao is called " botxo" because it is surrounded by mountains.

Recently the market has been rebuilt.

THE TRIP TO BILBO

In 1980 there was a crisis and the companies started closing and in 1983 a flood destroyed the old town. When they put the Gugenhein the crisis went away. Bilbao has changed a lot since then. Now it is a city of services.

Theatre Arriaga

The Theatre Arriaga is a theatre of Bilbao. It is a neo-barroque building of ends of the 19th century. It was built by the architect Joaquín de Rucoba and it was dedicated to the composer Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga. It was like Mozart.

Sandbank: Arenal
Last century it was a beach. Later they put a few shipyards. When they eliminated the sandbank it turned into a green space with many trees and plants. Now it is the most green zone of old town.



The station of the north:
There all kinds of material was transported:people, animals, minerals, food …






San Nikolas's church:
It was a hermitage, but now it is a church. It is a barroque church with 2 towers and a dome. In the entry it is possible to see the shield of the Athletic.




The new square:
It was created in 1821. It is a copy to the square of Madrid and that ofSalamanc. Former it was a hotel and now the euskaltzaindia has taken its residence.






Lezama's train station:
The train there was going to Bilbo's cemetery in Derio. In the high floor of the train station, there was a chapel where they said goodbye of the dead people.

The entry of zamudio:
Hereabouts it was entered to the city. It was the principal entry where they were putting the wool and the wine.

Arriaga theatre is in Bilbo, next to the Arenal square. Its architect was Joaquin Ruboda. He made the theatre in memory of Juan Crisostomo Arriaga, because Arriaga was a musician but he died when he was young. The theatre was finished in 1890.

Arriaga has got different pictures in its front, for example musical instruments and mask, and it is easy to recognise it as a theatre.

A trip day

My school organized one trip on 15 February 2011. We went to visit Bilbao.
We caught the train from Bilbao at 9:00 in the morning and we went to see two places in Bilbao , Basque language house (Euskararen etxea and Old Town (Zazpi Kaleak).
In the basque lenguage house the guide explained us where this language comes from and why the people left it as their usual language.
In Old Town we went for walk along the street and the guide explained us the most important building in those places , for example Arriaga Theater, New Square ...
Then, we had our sandwiches for lunch and we had free time , for an hour , to do shopping or get relax time.
When the free time finished we came back to New Square to meet our teachers and then we caught the train from Bilbao to Zalla and we arrived at 15:40.
The students went home and so the trip day finished.

Visit to Bilbao.

Bilbao was founded in XIV centuary. Don Diego Lopez de Haro in 1300 appointed Bilbao city. Bilbao was located in seven streets. This city was called " el botxo" because was arrounded by mountains.

Until 1870 Abando didn't belong to Bilbao. Many years ago, Bilbao's buildings were dark because there was a lot of polluting industries.

The iron was carried from Abando station to Leon and Santander.

The design of the "New square" was done in 1821 but it wasn't inaugurated until 1851. In 1828 the king of Castilla went to visit Bilbao but three years before the square was inaugurated, the king died.

Bihar Bilboko Alde Zaharra bisitatzera joango gara. Bertoko elizak, enparantzak, Arriaga antzokia eta La Ribera merkatua ezagutuko ditugu, baina bereziki zazpi kaleetan zehar ibiliko gara. Hemen uzten dizuet esteka hau datu interesgarri batzuk irakur ditzazuen. Gero Euskararen etxera joango gara.

Euskararen Etxea Bilboko San Inazio auzoan dago, eta sortu zen Bizkaiko Foru Aldundiaren, Bilboko Udalaren eta Eusko Jaurlaritzaren arteko lankidetzari esker; beraren helburua euskarari buruzko gune espezializatua izatea da.

2004ko abenduaren 3tik Euskararen Etxeko ateak zabalik daude euskaltzaleentzat, ikertzaileentzat eta euskarari buruzko gaietan interesa izan dezaketen pertsona guztientzat.
